My Brother My Keeper
He quoted Durant to mean that delight
is held in each normal function of life
and he lived it. Enough to cast aside
the storms that do not ravage his present
because he learned from the past. And came
to carry me and the tribulations
of my pilgrimage. He never journeyed
like I did and my experience almost
patronized his lack of it. He kept his
humility and shared his heart with me.
I was humiliated. My arrogance
would never be allowed in the allied
hearts of Jesus and Mary. And I was
consecrated to them just recently.
My brother heeded my call albeit
laced with pride; he knew I’d recant.
Abram sacrificed Isaac without woe
or worry with only obedience his
trusting confidence. At seventy-five
God called him and defined faith according
to his greatness and his generations
are still being blessed. Prospero was sent
by Him to make me realize my age,
six years shy of my ancestor, is blest
according to my choice of grace. My son
has sacrificed his future because of
my past. It is up to me to describe
our present according to God’s love.
