People were bringing their little children to him to have him touch them, and the disciples rebuked them for this.
When Jesus noticed it, he was very angry and said, “Let the children come to me and don’t stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms and, laying his hands on them, blessed them.
READ: In the experience of darkness, a light will be seen through a child that is to be born from the line of David and he is called the “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The way to the Kingdom of God is to be a child. Being a child is found in Jesus. We learn the way of helplessness, humility, obedience, trust and dependence in our faith in and love for Jesus.
REFLECT: How do we see children: Are they gifts or burden? There are couples who like to have children but do not have one, what is God calling for them? There are parents who are blessed with many children but could hardly provide their basic necessities, what is God’s invitation for them?
PRAY: Lord Jesus it is in you that we learn how to be truly a child of the eternal Kingdom. Teach us how to be humble in our helplessness, to be trusting and depend on your goodness in our insecurities and poverty, to be compassionate and loving In the midst of uncertainties and conflict. Amen.
ACT: Let us pay attention to children and learn to be childlike: vulnerable, humble, simple, dependent, trusting and loving.
