As they went on their way, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
To another, Jesus said, “Follow me!” But he answered, “Let me go back now, for, ?rst, I want to bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their dead; as for you, leave them, and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
Another said to him, “I will follow you, Lord, but ?rst let me say goodbye to my family.” And Jesus said to him, “Whoever has put his hand to the plow, and looks back, is not ?t for the kingdom of God.”
The invitation to be part of the team of Jesus continues until now. Many are called but only few respond willingly. It seems that we have a hundred and one reasons to postpone our response to God’s call yet it only takes a hint from the worldly call before we go scurrying in its direction. It is therefore not a surprise to see many of those who hunger to know about God being unministered, neglected and abandoned. We are too preoccupied with worldly affairs that the work of the Lord takes a backseat in our priorities. Yet the Lord does not give up. The call is still on. Will you have your reasons too or will you stop hardening your heart to God’s invitation?
