Most Reverend Pablo Virgilio David, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Kalookan, has been elected as the new president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) during the two-day online plenary assembly of the bishops, which started last July 8. He succeed Most Reverend Romulo Valles, DD, Archbishop of Davao.
Bishop David was born on March 02, 1959 in Betis, Guagua, Pampanga, in the Archdiocese of San Fernando. He attended high school at the Mother of Good Counsel Minor Seminary and finished his degree in philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University, and his theological studies at the Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University.
On March 12, 1983, He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga. He then earned his Licentiate and later his Doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
On May 27, 2006, he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Titular Bishop of Guardialfiera and Auxiliary of San Fernando, Pampanga. Currently, he holds the Chairmanship of the Episcopal Commission for the Biblical Apostolate.
Meanwhile, Most Reverend Mylo Hubert Vergara, DD of the Diocese of Pasig was elected CBCP vice president.
